Why you can trust our chicken
If you know Swiss Farm, you’ll know we DO NOT compromise on quality. So, here’s a quick look at our famous chicken and why you can trust us.
“Chicken is just chicken, right?!” This is a saying we have heard down the years, and unfortunately, it couldn’t be further from the truth. From the way it is raised, to how it is prepared, packaged and even sold, we’ll show you what to look for and why you can trust Swiss Farm.
100% locally sourced English chicken
Prepared here at Swiss Farm vs. a large foreign cutting plant
We know exactly where our chicken is sourced from and exactly where it is prepared. Our local suppliers deliver us locally sourced chicken from East Anglia which is carefully hand prepared by our master butchers right here at Swiss Farm. Just think, do you really want to eat chicken which was reared in a foreign country and prepared in a foreign cutting plant? We certainly don’t!
We NEVER combine English and foreign chicken
Just because someone says they sell English chicken, doesn’t mean they won’t also sell foreign chicken as well. That’s why we say 100% English, because it is just that.
*Quick tip – if you’re like us and only want English Chicken, ask your butcher “is your chicken 100% English”…by law they have to tell the truth! It’s something we’ve been proud to say since 1972.
Regulated by the Food Standards Agency
All our local suppliers are regulated by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and achieve the highest standards obtainable for the health and welfare of the birds, as well as the hygiene of the facility. Conversely, foreign chicken will not be FSA regulated, and any establishment selling such chicken will likely be selling chicken raised and prepared with lower health, welfare and hygiene standards. Various butchers and supermarkets will sell foreign chicken as it is cheaper to buy in, but here at Swiss Farm we don’t compromise on quality – never have, never will.
Supports local farmers and jobs
Not only does English chicken ensure welfare standards and quality, it also supports local farmers and jobs. As a family run business, we’re always looking to support local business and community.
Hand-Cut straight off the bone
Guarantees true Swiss Farm quality
Swiss Farm’s butchers are true masters in the art of preparing chicken. Each chicken fillet is cut straight from the bone with the upmost care. We don’t buy in pre-cut chicken like many butchers or supermarkets, we do it all right here at Swiss Farm.
Always fresh & never frozen
We’re dedicated to providing you with the freshest chicken you can buy…and cutting it off the bone ensures just that! Foreign chicken conversely is likely to have been frozen and then defrosted for sale, a process which can increase the bacteria potential.
*Quick tip – to check if a butcher is selling chicken which has been frozen and then defrosted for sale, check the colour; if it’s greyish in colour and limp, then it likely has. If you can’t tell…just ask that butcher or visit us to see what fresh chicken looks like!
Prepared without added water & salt
What does added water mean?
Adding water to chicken increases the weight of the product. This means you pay more for less chicken. Our chicken is 100% without added water, so you can be sure you’re getting chicken and only chicken.
Salt you say?
Many chicken products (particularly supermarket and foreign chicken) will be washed in a salt (sodium) solution. This is done to improve freshness due to the time it takes for the product to go from a cutting plant to display. This is something we do not do! Our chicken is 100% fresh and free from added salt.
*Quick tip – look at the journey the chicken product has been on. If it’s foreign chicken or has sodium on the ingredients list, it has likely been washed in sodium to increase the shelf life.
What you see is what you get
You can choose
As mad as it may seem, various establishments will go out back to get your order. We on the other hand have all our chicken beautifully displayed on our custom built 40ft counter for you to choose from.
